MULTI-SENSORY TRANSLATION OF WEST WIND IN AGO

Multi-Sensory  Translation of WEST WIND in AGO
Multi-Sensory is a course designed to translate traditional two-dimensional art works at art galleries into multisensory experience projects, and to help visitors, especially the visually impaired, to better appreciate art.

The work I chose to translate is the west wind by Canadian national artist Tom Thomson. Collaborated with Rachel Han, we made a 3D model using materials close to the natural environment in the painting. In addition, the scale relation in the model which is same as the painting is used to help the visually impaired better understand the perspective relation of artworks
We also used Makey Makey to connect the model to the computer and Ipad. When visitors touch different parts of the model, different sounds will be triggered. Especially for the visitors with visual impaired, can easily understand the composition and structure of the painting by touching.

This work, as part of the course exhibition, participated in the BIG REVEAL held in AGO and received unanimous praise from the visitors. And it was reported by the Toronto star.
